Saint Peter’s Catholic Church, West Pubnico, 1951

The church is architecturally unique in this part of Nova Scotia with its six bays of gothic dormers projecting from each side of the roof. The church and the parish continue to prosper today. This photograph was taken by an unknown professional photographer in 1951 during West Pubnico’s Tercentenary. It was originally reproduced as a commercial postcard. Architectural plans for the building were contracted from J.B. Kinney of the firm Kinney & Haley of Yarmouth. It was constructed between 1888-1891. In 1891 the new Saint Pierre Church was completed and opened for worship.
